Position Summary:
Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access and fulfillment activities across nephrology healthcare provider accounts and execution of the patient access field reimbursement strategy. Ensures providers, patients, and caregivers have information/tools to start and stay on therapy and fosters compliant communications across Patient Experience, Specialty Pharmacy, Market Access, and Field Sales.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead a field access & reimbursement team.
- Use KPIs/analytics to optimize field execution and develop long/short-term strategic plans.
- Create regional vision and team culture; motivate performance; achieve goals.
- Deliver/manage performance; provide coaching; ensure regulatory and internal policy compliance.
- Identify and address access/fulfillment obstacles (pharmacy benefit, specialty pharmacy, REMS).
- Develop regional business plan to optimize patient initiation and pull-through metrics.
- Provide product access/reimbursement expertise and training to the team.
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration with field sales; create communication cadence across ARMs, hub services, REMS, specialty pharmacy, and payer account team.
- Support issue resolution via field/virtual calls; cultivate key account relationships.
- Train on coverage/payer criteria changes; ensure access/fulfillment messaging in customer engagement.
- Analyze regional performance and address ARM capability gaps.
Qualifications (required):
- Bachelorβs degree in related field.
- 10 years pharma/biotech or related experience.
- 5+ years specialty medicines with deep access & reimbursement landscape knowledge (HUBs, payers, specialty pharmacies).
- 3+ years field reimbursement manager.
- 3+ years first-line team leader.
Preferred/Additional Skills:
- Specialty pharmaceutical/nephrology/rare disease/REMS experience.
- Experience with specialty pharmacy networks and new-to-market access complexities.
- Knowledge of private/commercial and government reimbursement (e.g., Medicare Part D, VA).
- Reimbursement-process education (benefit verifications, prior auth, appeals, denials, letters of medical necessity).
- Basic Excel/PowerPoint; ability to resolve/educate virtually.
- Field-based role; live within region/adjacent with major airport; valid driverβs license; reliable vehicle; travel up to 50%.
