Position Summary:
Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access/fulfillment for nephrology provider accounts and execution of the patient access field reimbursement strategy. Ensures providers, patients, and caregivers have the information, tools, and resources to start and stay on therapy; fosters compliant cross-functional communications (Patient Experience, Specialty Pharmacy, Market Access, Field Sales).
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead a field access/reimbursement team.
- Use KPIs/analytics to optimize field execution and develop region business plans.
- Deliver strategic planning and manage execution in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide performance management, coaching, training, and compliance oversight.
- Address access/fulfillment obstacles (benefit design, specialty pharmacy, REMS).
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration with Field Sales; create communication cadence with ARMs/hub/REMS/specialty pharmacy/payer teams.
- Support issue resolution via field work and virtual calls; travel up to 50%.
- Analyze regional performance and close capability gaps.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelorβs degree (related field) required.
- 10 years pharma/biotech or related experience (specialty pharma, nephrology, rare disease, REMS preferred).
- 5+ years specialty medicines access & reimbursement landscape (HUBs, payers, specialty pharmacies).
- 3+ years field reimbursement manager.
- 3+ years first-line people leadership with coaching/capability development.
Skills/Experience:
- Expert knowledge of access & reimbursement; strong payer knowledge (commercial/private, Medicare Part D, VA).
- Proven reimbursement process education (benefit verification, prior auth, appeals, denials, medical necessity, pre-determination).
- Strong collaboration, interpersonal/organizational, written/verbal communication; Excel/PowerPoint.
- Field-based role: live within region/adjacent to major airport; valid driverβs license and reliable vehicle.
