Role Summary

Internship in the Bristol Myers Squibb Drug Product Development (DPD) department. A ~10-week program focusing on predictive modeling, data science, and ML/AI to advance drug product development, with mentorship and a guided project within a PD Project Team. This position is located in New Brunswick, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to drug product development projects by designing and implementing computational models that analyze the effects of process variables and material properties on product attributes.
  • Apply machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to large datasets, driving insights for decision-making and mitigating product-related risks.
  • Develop and test predictive models that enhance our understanding of key pharmaceutical unit operations for both oral solid and parenteral dosage forms, including drug delivery devices.
  • Collaborate with formulation, process development, and device engineering teams to improve product performance through data-driven insights.
  • Communicate and present results at internal forums, presenting scientific results to diverse audiences through data analysis and visualizations.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited university program seeking a Ph.D. in engineering, materials science, computational sciences, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Candidates are expected to graduate between Fall 2026 and end of 2027.
  • Must include GPA on resume (program requires GPA of 3.0 or greater) and a summary of their current research, not exceeding two pages, for consideration.
  • Demonstrated experience in computational modeling and/or data science, applied to engineering or pharmaceutical challenges.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, R, or similar, with an emphasis on data analysis and modeling is preferred.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing test methods to produce data inputs for computational modeling is preferred.
  • Knowledge of drug product development processes and pharmaceutical unit operations and/or medical devices is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both scientific and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to solve problems independently with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the US both at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment; immigration or visa sponsorship is not available for this position now or in the future.

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in engineering, materials science, computational sciences, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Expected graduation between Fall 2026 and end of 2027.
  • GPA 3.0+ is required; provide a two-page summary of current research for consideration.

  • Authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment; immigration/visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Position is in New Brunswick, NJ; in-person internship with potential travel stipend if located more than 50 miles from the work location.
