Role Summary
The 2026 Co-Op in Drug Product Development is a winter/spring co-op opportunity based in Norwood, MA, from January 20, 2026 to June 26, 2026. Applicants must be available for the entire duration. The role involves joining a cross-functional team to develop and scale mRNA drug product processes, with hands-on experience in mRNA synthesis, lipid nanoparticle assembly, and formulation, contributing to process control strategies and technology transfer.
Responsibilities
- Work with a team of experts to come up to speed on technology and techniques.
- Use laboratory, technical, and communication skills to generate experimental results, analyze data, and document in formal reports with conclusions and next steps.
- Perform process scale-up, support technology transfer, and provide manufacturing support at Moderna sites and external contract manufacturing sites.
- Participate in planning, design, execution, analysis of experiments, and formal risk assessments to establish critical process parameters and control strategies.
- Optimize formulation and processing conditions on the stability of mRNA drug products and intermediates.
- Review academic literature and establish collaborations with internal groups.
- Create scaled-down models and high-throughput setups for unit operations.
- Characterize mRNA and lipid nanoparticles with the analytical team.
- Prepare technical reports and present findings in cross-functional meetings.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required: Current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, Statistics, or related field.
- Strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills for evaluating experimental data.
- Laboratory skills applicable to bioprocess development and analytical methods.
- Must have work authorization in the US without future sponsorship; no immigration sponsorship is available for this role.
- Site-based position requiring full-time presence at Moderna’s site; remote work not eligible.
