Role Summary

Winter/spring co-op opportunity in Norwood, MA (January 20, 2026 โ€“ June 26, 2026). Participate in Analytical Development within Modernaโ€™s Technical Development organization, contributing to the development and validation of analytical methods for mRNA/LNP programs, and supporting tech transfer, scale-up, and regulatory activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to learn technology and techniques.
  • Generate experimental results, analyze data, and document findings in formal reports with conclusions and next steps.
  • Support process scale-up, technology transfer, and manufacturing support at Moderna and external contract manufacturing sites.
  • Participate in planning, design, execution, analysis of experiments, and risk assessments to establish critical process parameters and control strategies.
  • Optimize formulation and processing conditions affecting stability of mRNA drug products and intermediates.
  • Review relevant literature and establish collaborations with internal groups.
  • Create scaled-down models and high-throughput setups for unit operations.
  • Characterize mRNA and lipid nanoparticles with the analytical team.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings in cross-functional meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required: Current student enrolled in a Bachelor's or Masterโ€™s program in a related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, Statistics, or related).
  • Strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills for evaluating experimental data.
  • Laboratory skills applicable to bioprocess development and analytical methods.
  • Must have work authorization in the US without the need for future sponsorship; no immigration sponsorship available.
  • Site-based role requiring full-time presence at Modernaโ€™s site; not eligible for remote work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams; strong written and verbal communication.
