Position Summary
The Vice President, Hips and Knees R&D is accountable for setting and executing the R&D vision and strategy for DePuy Synthes’ hips and knees procedural solutions, including integration with digital, robotics, and biologics portfolios. Owns the end-to-end new product development lifecycle—from concept through launch and post-market support—and leads globally distributed R&D teams.

You Will Be Responsible For
- Define and communicate the hips and knees R&D vision and strategy aligned with DePuy Synthes and enterprise R&D objectives.
- Partner with DPS stakeholders on technology/procedural integration direction, scenario planning, and long-term innovation strategies.
- Balance and manage R&D horizons (past, present, future) and allocate resources across the enterprise to optimize total R&D impact.
- Oversee execution of the R&D strategy with accountability for speed, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitable growth.
- Drive cross-portfolio integration to maximize reuse of platforms, technologies, and capabilities across DPS.
- Partner with customers and business leaders to develop and refine an innovation roadmap delivering differentiated value propositions across the musculoskeletal care continuum.
- Own hips and knees R&D performance against DPS value creation metrics.
- Share best practices and contribute to enterprise-wide continuous improvement to strengthen R&D speed, effectiveness, and competitiveness.
- Represent hips and knees R&D on enterprise management forums/boards and advocate for decisions that optimize total DPS R&D and enterprise performance.
- Maintain relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g., surgeon KOLs and emerging customer segments) to inform innovation priorities and adoption strategies.
- Lead talent and organizational strategy to align culture, capabilities, and structure with near-term execution and long-term enterprise R&D goals.
- Develop leaders demonstrating enterprise thinking, accountability, trust, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 15+ years in R&D; at least 3 years’ experience in Hips and Knees implant systems R&D
- 10+ years as a global R&D leader with a track record of delivering results in challenging business environments
- Demonstrated R&D/Platform leadership track record in a large-scale global organization
- 10+ years of talent management experience (organizational and talent development)
- Expertise leading orthopedic division/company results via influence and collaboration across franchise and enterprise
- Excellent communication and influencing skills; ability to build relationships across all levels and with external customers and regulatory agencies
- Meaningful product launch execution experience (Design to Excellence, Design to Value) with measurable value creation through innovation
- Ability to shape/lead product portfolio and enrich the innovation pipeline
- Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, MS engineering, or advanced degree
- Preferred field: Mechanical / Systems / Biomedical Engineering
- PMA / Class III Medical Devices experience

Compensation
- Anticipated base pay range: $218,000.00 - $401,350.00
