Role Summary

VP, Head of US Market Access — Lead the company’s market access strategy and execution for current and future portfolio. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, responsible for building and guiding the market access organization and ensuring optimal patient access across payer types.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the cross-functional commercial organization’s vision, structure, talent, capabilities, and operating model.
  • Oversee all Market Access aspects including strategy, marketing, field-based account management, patient access & reimbursement services, channel strategy and operations, and pricing & contracting operations.
  • Ensure alignment with Commercial Insights & Operations, Marketing, Commercial Training & Effectiveness, and Sales to meet performance objectives.
  • Develop market access strategy for current and future products in the I&I space, with potential neurology exposure.
  • Build and retain a high-performing market access team.
  • Strategize patient access across payer types: commercial payers, PBMs/OBMs, Medicaid, Medicare, and VA/DOD.
  • Partner with Sales to understand customer needs and optimize business impact.
  • Design and implement data flows to track trends and performance; develop deep market access insights via data analysis, market research, and competitive intelligence.
  • Develop optimized pricing and contracting strategies; monitor impact and drive improvement.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and HEOR/Medical Affairs on value propositions, evidence plans, messaging, and economic analyses/models.
  • /manage field-based account relationships with payers, specialty pharmacies, GPOs, and provider accounts; design field operations and reporting.
  • Maintain cross-functional partnerships to ensure compliant, effective collaboration internally and in the field.
  • Implement channel strategies for product delivery; oversee channel operations and inventory management.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Legal, and Commercial Insights to map data strategy and secure data contracts for sales tracking, revenue recognition, price reporting, and rebates.
  • Oversee patient access and reimbursement programs to optimize access and commercial results.
  • Foster relationships across providers, patients, payers, distributors, and internal teams to support patient access and financial flows.
  • Monitor rapidly changing market access environments to inform strategy, portfolio planning, and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws; guide training on market access topics for the organization.
  • Provide thought leadership on access issues for pipeline products and advise global marketing on ex-US access strategies.
  • Communicate with marketing and sales leadership to address challenges and opportunities; represent the company at meetings and conferences as needed.
  • Participate in product strategy teams to inform global market access insights.
  • Oversee agency/vendor partnerships and deliver market access presentations to senior leadership.
  • Travel approximately 30% of the time for customer visits, meetings, and research.

Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in business or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MPH) preferred.
  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience, including 5–7 years in market access senior leadership roles.
  • I&I launch experience required; MS and SLE background a plus for future launches.
  • Strong team leadership, collaboration, and ethical, coaching-oriented management style.
  • Proven talent management—building, recruiting, developing, and retaining teams; capable of leading internal, remote, and field teams.
  • Proficiency in cross-functional influence, stakeholder engagement, and strategic/operational execution in a startup-like environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to synthesize data and present clear strategy insights to executives.
  • Adaptability to changing environments and ability to manage competing demands with professionalism.
