Role Summary

VP, GPL Franchise Lead - ICV (Immunology and Cardiovascular) is accountable for maximizing the value of the ICV portfolio by shaping the end-to-end disease strategy, in partnership with Research, Development, Global Product Development & Supply (GPS), and Commercialization, and leading a team of Global Program Leads. The role translates strategies into efficient execution and reports to the SVP, Head of ICV Development with matrix reporting to the SVP, Drug Development Strategy & Portfolio Management.

Responsibilities

  • Develops Disease Area Portfolio Strategy: Set the end-to-end disease strategy spanning the full lifecycle in partnership with drug development functions and other functions (including Research, Commercialization, GPS, and Enterprise Strategy).
  • Accelerate the portfolio and reduce development timelines for the most promising assets, while optimizing revenue and reach of currently marketed products.
  • Lead all R&D business development activities for the ICV portfolio, in partnership with the Business Development team and DD Strategy & Portfolio Management.
  • Effectively manages disease portfolio budget, making tradeoff decisions with enterprise mindset.

  • Drives execution of portfolio strategy through leadership of Disease Area Global Program Leads: leads and inspires a high-performing organization of GPLs across the Disease Area.
  • Oversees orchestration of design and execution of globally integrated program strategies, timelines, and budgets from candidate nomination to launch, commercialization, and lifecycle management.
  • Prioritizes, synthesizes, and pressure tests feedback from senior leadership on program direction/outputs and coaches GPLs in building this skillset.
  • Provides strategic and technical leadership to build a world-class drug development team balancing scientific excellence and operational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates inclusive leadership to drive innovation and fosters an diverse environment.
  • Demonstrates enterprise mindset to shape the future of R&D; ensures alignment with R&D and Enterprise functions.
  • Ensures Program Leaders demonstrate must-win capabilities and partner effectively with R&D and Enterprise functions.
  • Engages senior leaders and stakeholders to align program strategy and operational plans; communicates program risks and progress toward milestones.
  • Leads team problem-solving for data-driven decisions and facilitates rapid, objective decision making.
  • Leverages cross-functional expertise and governance to define asset development strategies and implementation plans.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Global Program Lead (GPL) for one or more programs: acts as the single point of accountability for leading the Global Program Team through design and execution of a global integrated program strategy, overseeing all aspects of the drug development lifecycle to ensure successful launch and commercialization.
  • Develops, leads, and inspires a high-performing matrix team and ensures strategic alignment with cross-functional stakeholders and senior leaders as data emerge and competitive insights unfold.

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD, DVM, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree of relevance.
  • 10+ years of experience in the drug development process with leadership experience in academic or industry settings.
  • Expertise in the drug development process, especially late development, relevant regulatory expectations, and overall drug development principles.
  • Proven leadership capability building high-performing teams and managing large organizations and matrix teams; demonstrated ability to influence across global matrices.
  • Deep understanding of basic biology, pharmaceutical optimization, translational medicine, and clinical pharmacology, including exposureโ€šร„รฌresponse relationships and dose selection in early development.
  • Working knowledge of exploratory development (chemistry/biochemistry, CMC), late development, and commercial.
  • Ability to create a clear global vision, strategies, and priorities for competing in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams to execute global Development Plans with focus on product differentiation and data-driven acceleration.
  • Ability to assess complex but sparse data sets, make informed decisions, and act under uncertainty.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Strong business and financial acumen to align portfolio strategies with company goals.

Education

  • MD, PhD, DVM, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree.
