In This Role, You Will
- Act as an influential enterprise leader across senior stakeholders, using critical thinking, change management, business acumen, and deep procurement expertise to drive strategic improvements beyond the R&D category.
- Lead and/or participate in senior management discussions for the R&D category, set priorities aligned to stakeholder needs, and represent Global Procurement in high-impact decisions.
- Design and lead an R&D procurement function that scales with human capability and technology-driven execution, re-engineering processes and embedding automation/intelligent tooling.
- Champion technology platform adoption/optimization for process automation, data-driven decision-making, and end-to-end procurement visibility; sustain change leadership.
- Lead R&D category negotiations, supplier management, and stakeholder engagement to differentiate through partnership and innovation.
- Build risk and supply chain resilience into category and sourcing strategies to ensure continuity for critical suppliers, services, and materials.
- Build agile, value-driving talent by owning development, retention, and recruiting of Global Procurement talent.
- Apply deep knowledge of efficient global procurement organizations in biopharma, using a global capability center to standardize activities and optimize efficiency.
- Role-model leadership behaviors by communicating vision and driving positive change with executives and critical suppliers.
This Role Might Be For You If You Have
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (required); advanced degree (MBA or similar) and/or professional procurement certification strongly preferred.
- ~20 years of progressive global procurement/category management experience with increasing scope, stakes, and team leadership.
- Direct experience leading procurement in a multinational biopharmaceutical/life sciences organization with R&D fluency (sourcing, CRO/clinical services, lab supplies) or closely adjacent complex categories.
- Enterprise-level influence with examples of shaping strategy beyond procurement and driving durable change.
- Hands-on experience building or substantially re-engineering procurement functions, embedding automation/intelligent tooling, and shifting capacity to higher-value work.
- Proven record of complex, high-value negotiations with quantifiable outcomes.
- Proactive supply chain resilience experience handling real disruption/continuity risk.
- People leadership experience managing Director-level (or equivalent) professionals, including succession development and retention through change.
