Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and scientific leadership for all clinical programs across the full continuum (FIH through proof-of-concept and through registrational trials), including trial direction, design, execution, and data interpretation.
- Own early development strategy (study design, endpoints, operational approach) and ensure continuity as programs advance.
- Lead Clinical Sciences, Clinical Operations, and Biostats/Data Mgmt; partner cross-functionally with Regulatory Affairs, Translational Sciences, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Innovation Lab, Finance, Legal, and Business Development (including clinical due diligence).
- Oversee protocol development, study objectives/scope/schedule, clinical plans (timelines/budgets), escalation of critical issues, and representation with investigators/regulators/executives.
- Review and interpret clinical data (deepest in early/mid-stages) to accelerate decision-making and de-risk investment.
- Build and retain a high-performing clinical development organization through mentoring, succession planning, and a culture of scientific rigor and psychological safety.

Qualifications (Factors for Success):
- Advanced degree (PharmD/MD/PhD) with deep early clinical development success.
- Preferred ophthalmology experience; plus dermatology, inflammatory or infectious diseases.
- 15+ years biotech/pharma clinical experience across Phase 1–registration; hands-on design/execution of early PoC and Phase 1 trials.
- Strong communication and cross-functional influence; proven strategic leadership and people management/mentoring.
- Startup/small pharma experience preferred; ability to develop strategy, contingencies, technical advice; hands-on/detail-oriented.

Compensation/benefits (as stated): $300,000–$420,000 base plus bonus and equity; health/dental/vision insurance; generous paid time off.
