Role Summary

Vice President, Value, Access and Policy at Apellis. Oversees a cross-functional team responsible for payer and provider access strategy, policy insights, pricing and contracting, contract operations and government pricing, payer/provider account teams, and trade. Located in Waltham, MA with high visibility role across the organization, supporting a 2025 launch and future launches.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to existing cross-functional members of the Value, Access & Policy group
  • Be a strategic thinker, while knowing how to tactically and operationally implement the strategy in both payers and trade/distribution channels
  • Possess specialty pharmacy, expert level buy and bill coverage and reimbursement background and knowledge
  • Build and lead the teams, processes, and outside partnerships that support a positive patient journey when onboarding with Apellis products
  • Oversee metrics and processes for monitoring and analyzing data from vendor partners (specialty pharmacy, distributors, etc.)
  • Coach, mentor and develop direct reports as well as cross-functional team members
  • Monitor customer feedback, performance data and market needs, and act quickly to challenges while planning improvements to processes and patient journey
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Account Directors, Medical Affairs, Community Liaison, Key Customer Manager, leadership)
  • Ensure field teams are educated and collaborate with patient support, patient programs and resources for HCPS, patients and caregivers
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance on compliant patient services development and execution
  • Understand the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and work with cross-functional partners to implement strategies benefiting patient access

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 15+ years total experience with at least 3 years at VP leadership level in market access; additional commercial experience is a plus
  • Experience in launching multiple products within a go-to-market model
  • Prior leadership in a player-coach setting, building programs and processes with the team
  • General management mindset; ability to lead through ambiguity

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Travel: Ability to travel/work at the company’s headquarters 3 days a week
