Role Summary

The Vice President, Programs and Portfolio Office (PPO) leads strategic alignment, operational excellence, and execution discipline across MindMed's portfolio of clinical and research programs. This role oversees the integrated program management function to ensure portfolio decisions are data-driven, risk-aware, and aligned with corporate goals. The VP, PPO partners with executive leadership to set priorities, track resources, and guide teams toward successful development outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Portfolio Leadership
  • Lead portfolio planning and prioritization to align R&D investments with corporate strategy and value creation
  • Oversee governance processes, including portfolio reviews and decision-making forums
  • Develop frameworks for scenario planning, risk management, and budget optimization
  • Program Management Excellence
  • Build and lead a high-performing program management team responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all development programs (preclinical through late-stage)
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment, transparency, and accountability across clinical, regulatory, CMC, and commercial readiness functions
  • Oversee integrated project plans, timelines, milestones, and budgets
  • Interface with key external partners to integrate external project management with our internal cross-functional teams
  • Operational and Organizational Leadership
  • Establish best practices, tools, and templates for program governance, reporting, and performance tracking
  • Serve as a key interface between scientific/clinical teams and executive leadership to ensure timely, informed decision-making
  • Drive continuous improvement and a culture of collaboration, agility, and excellence
  • Executive and Board Engagement
  • Provide regular program and portfolio updates to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Partner with Finance and Strategy functions on long-range planning and external communications

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, medicine, or related field (Ph.D., Pharm.D., or M.S.) strongly preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical program and portfolio management, including leadership of late-stage clinical programs
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional development teams and managing complex program portfolios
  • Deep understanding of the drug development process, from IND through NDA and commercialization
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-growing environment where hands-on leadership is required
