Role Summary

Vice President, Intellectual Property Licensing Counsel at Halozyme. Leads IP licensing initiatives, collaborates with business development, and provides legal support for licensing and technology transactions within Halozyme’s drug delivery platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Support team members in maintaining and managing relationships in current collaborations, including contract obligations and communications
  • Support strategy of new ENHANZE, MDASE, auto-injector, or other technology licenses or collaborations with Business Development
  • Draft non-disclosure, research, license, and other agreements involving use or ownership of IP
  • Perform diligence and support in potential life science transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, or in-licenses of new technologies
  • Advise management and business teams on leveraging Halozyme’s patent portfolio and growth opportunities
  • Work closely with IP counsel to prosecute and maintain the IP portfolio
  • Advise internal stakeholders and partner with external counsel on licensing, strategy, and potential IP or licensing litigation
  • Support General Counsel and Associate General Counsels in executing other strategies and tactics to achieve business goals
  • Manage outside counsel engagement for certain transactions
  • Develop and deliver training for business teams on licensing, IP, confidentiality and legal privilege
  • Interface with other functions and business teams including business development, product development, manufacturing, compliance, regulatory and finance
  • Collaborate with current partners, potential partners, law firms, and others as needed

Qualifications

  • J.D. or LL.M. from an ABA-accredited law school; admission to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction; 10+ years in IP licensing, with at least 5 years in a law firm and 4+ years in biotech/pharma industry (may consider equivalent education/experience)
  • Proven strategic transactions leadership; experience negotiating and drafting complex licensing and partnering agreements
  • Life sciences IP law experience required
  • Excellent analytical and contract drafting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication; interpersonal skills for a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic solutions
  • In-house biotechnology experience favorable
