Role Summary

Head of Oncology Portfolio & Alliance Strategy. This global role is responsible for driving cross-portfolio oncology medical strategy through high-impact external partnerships, shaping where the company plays, how it wins, and how it collaborates to enhance early- and late-stage oncology pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Portfolio Leadership: Input into the cross-portfolio medical strategy for oncology by integrating external trends, emerging science, and competitive intelligence; identify priority tumor types, modalities, and innovation areas in collaboration with Disease Area Heads; ensure external collaborations align with long-term oncology goals and leverage advancements such as AI, next-gen cell therapies, and novel diagnostics.
  • Alliance Development & Management: Build and execute a unified alliance strategy across the oncology portfolio; serve as medical executive sponsor or co-lead for high-value alliances; lead medical integration for new deals and partnerships; define and oversee KPIs and milestones; source external advisors to inform strategy and deal evaluation.
  • External Representation & Collaboration: Represent BMS in global consortia and partnerships; build academic and medical society partnerships; engage patient advocacy organizations; speak on behalf of BMS Oncology at external forums as a thought leader across alliances.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead and develop a high-performing team; collaborate across Medical, R&D, Commercial, BD, Legal, and Regulatory; embed best practices in alliance governance, integration, and knowledge-sharing.

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent scientific background in oncology; MBA or business acumen preferred.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in biopharma across R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, or Alliance Management.
  • Deep expertise in oncology drug development (early and late stage), scientific strategy, and external innovation.
  • Proven success in forming and managing strategic alliances across academia, industry, and public-private sectors.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influence at executive and partner levels; experience managing cross-functional teams in a global matrixed environment.

Education

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent; MBA preferred.
