Job Summary
- Lead a highly cross-functional team applying state-of-the-art genomic and molecular biology tools to advance genome editing therapies.
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of early research and development projects.
- Develop assays and reagents to characterize gene editing outcomes, including on-/off-target effects and structural variant assessment.
- Support platform improvements and novel nucleases into therapeutic programs.
- Provide technical expertise and drive cross-functional collaboration to support development of gene editing-based therapeutics.
- Develop strategy and implement state-of-the-art genomics and RNA labs, including gene editing analysis technologies/platforms and gene editing component production (sgRNA, mRNA).
- Assess new genomics technologies and bring them in as needed.
Responsibilities
- Create and lead a vision for genomics innovation supporting gene-editing therapy research.
- Collaborate to advance novel nucleases, insertion strategies, technologies, delivery advancements, and assays to assess unintended genomic changes.
- Support screening efforts generating data for pipeline advancement and platform improvements (guide RNA, messenger RNA, delivery optimization, and novel nuclease advancement).
- Oversee NGS production efforts (AMP-seq, off-target discovery/confirmation, structural variant analysis).
- Collaborate with Pre-Clinical NGS for assay transfer, validation, and scale-up.
- Partner with computational biology, software engineering, and automation on data analysis, data capture, and workflow optimization.
- Oversee genomics core budget and resource allocation, including equipment purchases, ensuring timely delivery of services.
- Ensure documentation, sample tracking, and compliance with regulations, guidelines, standards, and biosafety protocols.
- Communicate with users; bring in external consultants/collaborators as needed.
- Work with clinical, regulatory, and product development teams to integrate gene editing/genomics insights into workflows.
- Serve as functional representative to program teams by providing expertise to support candidate nomination and regulatory filing.
- Foster collaboration/innovation; manage employee discipline and termination per company policy.
Supervisory/Team Management
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to the Computational Biology team and ensure efficient daily operations.
- Foster a high-performing team through recruiting, training/development, staff assignment/resource allocation, coaching/mentoring, and KPIs/evaluation frameworks.
- Lead/mentor/develop scientists; oversee daily Gene Editing Core workflows and performance management.
Skills/Abilities
- Extensive experience in genomics (sequencing technologies and genomic data analysis).
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards for genomic research and data management.
- Experience with NGS, ddPCR, single-cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics.
- Strong foundation in experimental design and bioinformatics (design experiments, analyze data, interpret results).
- Proven leadership in leading core-function scientists, managing multiple projects, and overseeing lab operations.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Regulatory knowledge of relevant standards/guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Deep industry knowledge (preclinical and clinical research).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects.
Education/Experience
- PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics).
- PhD: at least 8 years of related professional experience; Masterโs/Bachelorโs: minimum 10 years relevant experience.
- 7+ years of direct people management experience.
Compensation/Benefits (as stated)
- Base salary expected range: $327,100.00โ$399,900.00 USD per year.
- Additional compensation: performance-based annual cash bonus; new hire equity grant; eligibility for annual equity awards.
