Vice President, Gene Editing Core
Job Summary
- Lead a highly cross-functional team applying genomic and molecular biology tools to advance genome editing therapies.
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of projects for early R&D studies.
- Develop assays and reagents to characterize gene editing outcomes (on/off-target and structural variants).
- Advance platform improvements and novel nucleases into therapeutic programs.
- Develop and lead state-of-the-art genomics and RNA labs; manage gene editing analysis technologies/platforms and gene editing component production (sgRNA, mRNA).
- Drive team growth, collaboration and innovation, manage external collaborations, and ensure high-quality results.
- Assess new genomics technologies and adopt as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic planning and leadership for genomics innovation supporting gene-editing therapy development.
- Collaborate on novel nucleases, insertion strategies, delivery advancements, and assays for unintended genomic change assessment.
- Support screening efforts (guide RNA, messenger RNA, delivery optimization; novel nuclease advancement).
- Oversee NGS production (AMP-seq, off-target discovery/confirmation, structural variant analysis) and assay transfer/validation/scale-up.
- Partner with computational biology/software/automation on analysis, data capture, and workflow optimization.
- Oversee Genomics Core budget/resource allocation and ensure documentation, sample tracking, and compliance with genomic data/biosafety standards.
- Coordinate with clinical/regulatory/product teams; represent program teams with gene editing method expertise.
Supervisory/Team Management
- Provide strategic direction and oversight; lead, mentor, and develop scientists; manage hiring/training/resource allocation/performance.
Skills/Abilities
- Extensive genomics experience (sequencing technologies, genomic data analysis).
- Familiarity with genomic research and data management compliance standards.
- Experience with NGS, ddPCR, single-cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics.
- Strong experimental design and bioinformatics skills.
- Proven leadership managing core scientists and multiple projects; excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.
- Regulatory knowledge; strong problem-solving/analytical skills; ability to prioritize in fast-paced environments.
Education/Experience
- PhD (molecular biology/biochemistry/genomics) or equivalent.
- PhD: 8+ years related experience; Master’s/Bachelor’s: 10+ years related experience; 7+ years directly managing people.
