The Position
Vice President, Clinical Development – Inflammation: Senior clinical development leader responsible for defining strategy, setting priorities, driving execution, and providing integrated portfolio leadership across Th2-mediated allergic diseases, rheumatology, and B-cell–mediated autoimmune disease.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee Development Leads and multidisciplinary matrix teams advancing programs across Th2-mediated allergic diseases, rheumatologic diseases, and B-cell–mediated autoimmune diseases.
- Set portfolio priorities across assets, disease areas, mechanisms of action, and indications.
- Lead clinical development strategy and execution from pre-IND through late-stage development (scientific rigor, operational excellence, regulatory alignment).
- Lead development strategy for key partnered assets (including business development/acquisition programs).
- Serve as senior Development representative for strategic alliances and governance/joint steering committees.
- Build relationships with external collaborators, academic experts, investigators, and regulatory agencies.
- Partner with internal functions (Research, Commercial, Corporate Development, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Biometrics, etc.) to align portfolio objectives.
- Represent Gilead externally in scientific/regulatory/business forums; serve as company-wide expert/thought leader.
- Ensure execution meets high scientific/quality/compliance/ethical standards.
- Attract, develop, mentor, and retain clinical talent.
Education & Qualifications (Required/Preferred)
- M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. required; 10+ years relevant industry experience preferred.
- Significant pharma/biotech clinical development experience, including global program leadership and cross-functional governance.
- Deep expertise in inflammation/immunology/rheumatology/autoimmune disease (or allergy/immunology).
- Demonstrated success leading strategies from early development through registration and lifecycle management.
- Experience leading complex multi-asset, multi-indication, multi-stage portfolios.
- Proven capability managing strategic alliances/partnerships.
- Strong understanding of global regulatory requirements and experience with major health authorities.
- Track record influencing executive-level decisions in highly matrixed organizations.
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management; ability to build/lead high-performing teams.
