Role Summary
Vertex Spring 2026 Co-op, VCGT Analytical Development
Responsibilities
- The aim of this co-op project will be to develop a flow cytometry panel to support characterization of CASGEVY V2.0 process development and understanding, with a focus on stemness and/or cell cycle. The student in this role will be trained by the hiring manager on flow cytometry assay development concepts and techniques, as well as guided in the development of the assay. Key aspects of the project will include:
- Data and literature review
- Sample fixation and permeabilization optimization
- Candidate marker evaluation
- Antibody specificity evaluation and titration
- Fit-for purpose assessment
- Detailed documentation in the form of an Electronic Lab Notebook
- Analysis and data presentation
- Potential Duties Will Include
- A fit-for-purpose flow panel to help characterize in-process and/or DP CASGEVY V2.0 development samples, including:
- Completion of feasibility studies
- A written test method
- Presentation of the project to peers and colleagues
Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or Master's program in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or another related field
- Experience with the following techniques is preferred: Basic cell culture experience and sterile technique, and flow cytometry
- Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
- You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026
- You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – June 2026
