Role Summary
Vertex Spring 2026 Co-op, Analytical Development. 6-month experiential training program for students pursuing undergraduate or advanced degrees in Biology, Bioengineering, Technology Sciences, Cell & Molecular Biology, or related fields. Co-op will support analytical development in the Cell and Gene Therapy field, performing analytical procedures and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve program goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform flow cytometry, cell counting, and other assays to support method development and extended characterization activities for the Type 1 diabetes (T1D) cell therapy program.
- Independently perform sample testing and data analysis following established methods and procedures.
- Design experiments and perform troubleshooting in conjunction with manager.
- Maintain excellent written documentation (e.g., electronic lab notebook, test forms).
- Report on project progress and present data at internal team meetings.
- Support lab logistics to ensure efficiency of lab operations.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Biology, Bioengineering, Technology Sciences, Cell & Molecular Biology, or related field.
- Proficient in basic lab skills and following protocols.
- Experience with one or more analytical techniques/data analysis software: mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, cell counting, ELISA, microscopy, JMP, GraphPad Prism.
- Proficient in using MS Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and detail-oriented, able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; Vertex does not sponsor internships or entry-level roles in this part of the organization.
- Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026.
- Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January to June 2026.
