Role Summary
Vertex Physician Investigator (VPI) Program is a full-time, immersive opportunity for exceptional early-career physician-scientists who are passionate about solving unmet medical needs and advancing transformative science. Over two years, participants will complete four customized six-month rotations, receive intensive training, and benefit from direct mentorship by Vertex senior leaders. This program is designed to provide a broad understanding of the drug development process and prepare participants for future leadership roles in biotechnology.
Responsibilities
- Complete four rotations over two years, including two mandatory rotations (Drug Discovery and Clinical Development) and two elective rotations in other Vertex functions.
- Engage in intensive didactic training on the science and business of drug development.
- Participate in peer-to-peer learning and mentorship from Vertex senior leaders.
- Receive career guidance and leadership development support.
- Upon completion, transition into a mutually selected full-time role at Vertex.
Qualifications
- MD or MD/PhD with completed residency/fellowship
- 5 years or fewer post-residency/fellowship
- Demonstrated scientific and investigative impact (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, awards)
- Evidence of creative thinking, problem-solving, and innovation
- Willingness to work in Vertexβs Boston office (relocation assistance available)
- Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Interest in drug discovery, clinical research, and commercialization
- Ability to bring diverse perspectives and experiences to Vertex
