Role Summary

Vertex Fall Co-op 2026 in Process Development, Process Monitoring is a six-month experiential program for undergraduates in Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related STEM fields. You'll work on manufacturing process development for cell and gene therapies, applying multivariate analysis, data visualization, and computational tools to identify drivers of product quality and opportunities for process improvement. This role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, hands-on project work, and accelerated learning in a biotech manufacturing environment. Onsite in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and apply multivariate analysis techniques (e.g., Principal Component Analysis) for manufacturing processes. Deliverables include analysis reports and visualizations that identify critical process parameters and their impact on product quality.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to determine key variables that influence product quality and performance. This involves working closely with internal stakeholders to gather data, interpret results, and present findings to support process optimization initiatives.
  • Use statistical tools and data visualization techniques to monitor manufacturing processes and identify potential process drifts or deviations. Provide regular updates and reports to process development and quality teams to ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Use data insights to identify opportunities for enhancing manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and overall process performance. Work with cross-functional teams to implement and validate process improvements, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program as a Junior or Senior in Engineering, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or another related field
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., JMP or similar tools)
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including data organization and analysis
  • Experience with multivariate analysis techniques and methodologies
  • General knowledge and proficiency in working with computer databases and data management systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Capacity to work full-time onsite in Boston, MA
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future (eligibility to work without sponsorship)
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July – December 2026
