Role Summary

The Vertex Fall Co-op 2026 in Operational Excellence - AI Enablement, Commercial Manufacturing & Technical Operations is a 6-month co-op program for students pursuing undergraduate or advanced degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or related fields. The role focuses on enabling AI adoption within the OpEx function, building internal capability, and fostering a culture of experimentation with generative AI tools like Microsoft Copilot. This position provides hands-on experience in manufacturing strategy and related operations, serving as a launchpad for your career.

Responsibilities

  • Agent Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deploy AI agents that automate routine tasks and improve productivity.
  • Prompt Engineering Enablement: Develop and deliver training on prompt engineering, including use-case templates and best practices to build AI fluency across the organization.
  • Office Hours & Community Engagement: Host weekly office hours to support users, gather feedback, and share tips and tricks. Help build a vibrant internal AI community.
  • AI Governance & Use Case Documentation: Assist in documenting AI use cases, agent performance metrics, and governance protocols to ensure responsible deployment and alignment with enterprise standards.

Qualifications

  • Required: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering, or Business Analytics or Information Systems.
  • Required: Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude), prompt engineering, context engineering, connectors (model context protocol).
  • Required: Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Preferred: Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, or M365 tools.
  • Preferred: Experience with Operational Excellence (Lean Six Sigma, Process Mapping, etc.).
  • Required: Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
  • Required: You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026.
  • Required: You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July – December 2026.
