Position Summary:
Verification Authorization Associates verify active insurance coverage, obtain facility and specimen collection information for CMS billing, secure required preauthorization from insurance companies, and contact facilities for medical records as needed. They ensure information is complete and accurate, follow up on requests, and apply knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payer requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Proficient in and exceeding Verification/Authorization Personnel–Specialist responsibilities.
- Identify ways to improve and promote quality; monitor own work to meet quality standards.
- Answer provider, facility, and staff questions about insurance authorization requirements.
- Manage and assign daily/weekly tasks based on business need.
- Occasional peer-to-peer training.
Required Qualifications:
- High school degree or equivalent.
- 2+ years of office setting experience.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with minimal guidance; proactive, motivated self-starter.
- Flexibility to handle frequent changes.
- Strong knowledge of insurance processing and payer guidelines/laws.
- Proficient clinical documentation review aligned to insurance authorization.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
- Moderate knowledge of CPT and ICD-10.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years related experience, or 5 years related experience.
- Professionalism, organizational skills, communication to educate/influence, persistent follow-up, and drive for resolution.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Verbal/written communication, teamwork, and customer service focus.
Other/Training:
- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
- Willingness to work shift work and overtime; occasional weekends/evenings/holidays.
