Job Summary:
The Utility Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of plant utility systems, ensuring continuous and reliable support for manufacturing operations.
Key Objectives and Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor utility systems (HVAC, chillers, compressed air, purified water, wastewater treatment).
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Record and analyze operational data and optimize system performance/efficiency.
- Respond to alarms and emergencies with corrective actions to prevent downtime.
- Conduct chemical testing and analysis on water and other utility systems to meet quality standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering to support production and facility projects.
- Follow GMP, SOPs, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment logs, and operational parameters.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Use information systems to complete work and communicate (e.g., GMARS, Word, Excel, UMS).
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certification preferred (HVAC, industrial maintenance, power plant operations).
- 2+ years operating/maintaining industrial utility systems in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.
- Authorized to work in the United States full-time; Lilly does not sponsor work authorization/visas.
Additional Preferences:
- Mechanical, electrical, and control systems knowledge.
- Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and manuals.
- Troubleshooting and repair experience.
- Knowledge of GMP and pharmaceutical quality systems.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Requirements:
- Rotating shifts (days/nights), weekends/holidays; 12-hour shift or 8-hour M-F; on-call as needed; 24-hour operation.
- Lift up to 40 lbs; climb ladders; work in varying environmental conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- PPE required due to hazardous utility operations (acid/steam/caustic, high pressure, high temperatures).
- Ability to work in cramped spaces and perform ladder/scaffolding work.

- Anticipated wage: $21.27–$41.25.
