Role Summary
The Utilities Operations Supervisor (Lilly Medicine Foundry) oversees utility operations, ensuring safe and uninterrupted generation and distribution of utility services to meet Foundry needs. This role leads and develops operators through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management, and is skilled in troubleshooting and implementing improvements. The position manages utility systems (high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, glycol, city water and sewers) and monitors UMS alarms to maintain safe, compliant, and cost-efficient operations. Location initially at Lilly Technology Center, Indianapolis and/or Foundry Temporary Office (Carmel, IN); permanent location at the Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana.
Responsibilities
- Drive safety culture and HSE compliance in daily work; comply with HSE plans and participate in safety programs; lead monthly safety meetings; develop and sustain a safe environment.
- Quality: Maintain technical proficiency to solve problems and conduct investigations; ensure operators are trained, qualified, and compliant with procedures; maintain equipment and facilities for use; keep documents accurate using good documentation practices; ensure service level agreements are observed.
- Operational Excellence: Authorize overtime to properly staff shifts; ensure timely, proactive, compliant, and cost-effective utility operations; lead process initiatives and coordinate with shifts and functional teams; ensure continuous utility supply within SLAs; provide leader-led training to qualify operators of utility process systems.
- Productivity and Continuous Improvement: Maintain plant utility systems in readiness and participate in upgrade/replacement strategy; communicate decisions and rationale clearly; identify opportunities for targeted continuous improvement; report floor issues and status to process owners; collaborate with maintenance and engineering to improve job plans and operator actions in response to alarms.
- People: Develop performance management plans for operations personnel with regular check-ins; coach and address performance gaps; foster cross-team collaboration to drive improvement; maintain productive relationships with user community to meet corporate objectives.
Qualifications
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent; mechanical aptitude; strong written and oral communication; ability to set expectations and monitor results; willingness to respond to call-in and scheduled overtime; capable of lifting 40 lbs; ability to work outdoors in varied temperatures.
- Preferred: Bachelorβs or Associate Degree in science, engineering, or a technical field; experience in utility operations or pharmaceutical manufacturing; leadership experience; ability to provide/receive feedback and develop employees; basic computer skills; understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; lean manufacturing knowledge; ability to work with a team and influence diverse groups; ability to coach and mentor others; strong communication skills for various audiences.

- Operations are 24/7/365; shift structure may evolve (initial Mon-Fri dayshift; 12-hour dayshift when Utilities Operations fully starts)
- Hazardous operations in Utilities area (caustic, steam, high pressures/temps)
- Willingness to work overtime as required
