Role Summary

The US Publications Lead Associate Director will establish strategic publications plans aligned with the overall medical communication strategy and objectives for a given asset, in alignment with the asset-level/global publication strategy. Works closely with the Global/Regional Publications Director to ensure advanced execution of plans, timely delivery, and adherence to policy and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional publication team to develop strategic publications plans and detailed tactics; integrate the strategic publication plan into the medical strategic framework.
  • Ensure global and regional/country alignment and input on plans in collaboration with the Publications team.
  • Communicate the plan effectively to different audiences.
  • Oversee execution of publication plans within a rigorous framework following best practices.
  • Manage external agencies in production of deliverables when appropriate.
  • Maintain scientific integrity and ethics; challenge deviations from policy or values.
  • Manage financial and contractual aspects of projects, including vendor relationships.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as publications expert for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be the spokesperson for publications within a given asset.
  • Manage a complex network of stakeholders and ensure proactive communication aligned with function/seniority needs.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to achieve team objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate compliance risks; contribute to enterprise best practices.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in science, pharmacy or allied health field, medical communications, or related subject.
  • Required: 5+ years’ experience in publications management, scientific communications and/or medical affairs with external scientific engagement focus.
  • Required: Experience analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Required: Project management expertise across global matrix teams.
  • Required: Ability to work independently on identified tasks and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, including management of agency partners.
  • Preferred: MSc or PhD or medical degree in science, pharmacy, or allied health field.
  • Preferred: Experience in pharmaceutical environment.
  • Preferred: Credibility to engage with global external experts; ability to build relationships across matrix; ability to influence through complex issues.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Datavision/iEnvision Publication software.
