Role: Lead upstream process development for vaccine bioprocessing, focusing on mammalian cell culture and microbial fermentation platforms within Vaccines Early Bioprocess Development (EBPD). Responsibilities: design, execute, and interpret experiments to optimize cell growth, recombinant protein expression, and product quality; evaluate hosts, feeds, and bioreactor parameters; implement high-throughput, automation, and digital tools; lead scale-up, process transfer, and documentation; collaborate across teams and evaluate new technologies. Qualifications: PhD in biochemical/chemical engineering, microbiology, or related field with 5+ years (PhD) or 10+ years (MS/BS) relevant bioprocess experience; expertise in at least one platform (mammalian or microbial) with hands-on process development in bioreactors; strong knowledge of DOE, mechanistic modeling, GMP, and regulatory standards. Preferred: experience with both platforms, QbD, process characterization, and regulatory documentation. High-value specifics: vaccine antigen production, GMP manufacturing readiness, process scale-up, and tech transfer. Work environment: laboratory-based with flexible hours, occasional weekends, and potential travel. Relocation support available.
