We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of External Technology Innovation Programs to join the Translational Medicine, Operations, Diagnostics and Technology group (ODT). In this role, you will lead the identification, evaluation, and integration of innovative external technologies to enhance our biomarker strategies and clinical development programs. You will work across disease areas and technology domains to drive innovation that accelerates the development of new medicines and improves patient outcomes.
This is a cross-functional, strategic, and execution-oriented role ideal for a scientifically grounded innovator who thrives at the intersection of science, technology, and clinical application.
The Opportunity:
As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:
- Championing the identification, development, and implementation of groundbreaking biomarker technologies external to gRED to drive TMโs clinical biomarker and Translational Research objectives.
- Shaping and executing TMโs technology development strategy in partnership with stakeholders across Translational Medicine, Computational Sciences, Early Clinical Development, Development Sciences, and Research.
- Building, cultivating and maintaining strategic alliances and collaborations with internal and external partners, including academic institutions, biotech firms, and technology developers, to promote TM objectives and advance innovation in Translational Medicine.
- Directing and facilitating technology development and integration projects, from initial concept to prototype, validation, and implementation.
- Managing a varied portfolio of technology innovation projects to guarantee strategic alignment, successful execution, and achievement of project goals.
- Managing and supporting cross-functional, matrixed project teams throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial project scoping to final execution.
- Serving as a key member of the TM Technology Core Team (TCT) to drive prioritization, alignment, and implementation of TM technology initiatives.
- Effectively communicating project goals, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership and stakeholders to secure support and drive decision-making.
- Cultivating a culture of innovation internally by organizing workshops, engaging thought leaders, and encouraging experimentation.
Who You Are
- PhD or equivalent in molecular biology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences, computational biology, or a related field; 5โ10+ years of experience in translational science, diagnostics, or R&D innovation, ideally within pharma or biotech.
- Strong technical foundation in at least one or more of the following areas: liquid biopsies, genomics, proteomics, imaging, spatial biology, digital pathology, biosensors, or computational methods.
- Proven experience evaluating, developing, or integrating emerging technologies in a clinical or translational research setting.
- Strategic mindset with hands-on execution skills and a strong sense of scientific rigor.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional, matrixed teams and manage complex projects.
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity and driving initiatives with evolving priorities.
- Excellent communication, influence, and relationship-building skills.
Relocation Assistance is provided for this position
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $213,200-396,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
