Role Description:
The animal research technician supports day-to-day animal facility operations and portfolio execution in a research environment at the Zoetis Richland site, primarily working with companion animals (dog and cat) and potentially cross-supporting other species. Properly use and maintain equipment and follow techniques per departmental SOPs and Institutional Policies. Performs all phases of clinical and preclinical studies for discovery and/or development of animal health products.
- Weekend and holiday work expected and performed on rotation.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with in-vivo study protocol review, biological sample collection, and data collection in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform animal activities including animal husbandry, animal treatments, record keeping, and laboratory and instrument maintenance per Animal Welfare and GXP policies.
- Clean and disinfect animal areas.
- Carry out duties according to protocol and applicable SOPs.
- Use knowledge of how functional areas interact to complete research protocols.
- Communicate with and assist lead technicians, manager, and researchers.
- Assist and support clinical veterinarians with veterinary care.
- Provide training in standard animal procedures, which may include study execution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and share knowledge.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma plus 4 years related experience or education combined.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and tasks.
- Demonstrated math and reading comprehension required.

Desirable attributes:
- Veterinary technician license/certification.
- AALAS certification.
- Previous in vivo research experience.
- Proven teamwork.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Use PPE and maintain very high personal hygiene.
