Role Description:
Animal research technician supporting day-to-day animal facility operations at the Kalamazoo, MI site. Provides care for companion animals in a research environment; primary species include cats, dogs, and rodents (may cross-support other species). Follow departmental SOPs and Institutional Policies; perform all phases of clinical and preclinical studies for discovery/development of animal health products. Weekend and holiday work on rotation.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily animal husbandry for cats, dogs, and rodents
- Conduct sample collection/processing; execute technical aspects of study protocols and data collection
- Maintain study rooms and animal areas (cleaning/disinfecting) to ensure inspection readiness
- Train others on animal activities
- Maintain laboratory and instruments per applicable Animal Welfare and GXP policies
- Conduct all responsibilities per protocols and SOPs; comprehend and follow research protocols
- Communicate with and assist lead technicians, managers, and researchers
- Support clinical veterinarians with veterinary care
- Contribute to continuous improvement and share knowledge
Qualifications:
- High school diploma + 3 years related experience, or education combined with/or valid veterinary technician license/certification
- Experience working with animals (cats/dogs preferred) in a commercial or veterinary research setting
- Proven teamwork skills
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, adaptability; experience in fast-paced, multi-project environments
- Demonstrated math and reading comprehension
Desirable attributes:
- Associate degree in a related field
- AALAS Certification
- Prior in vivo research experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Use PPE and maintain high personal hygiene
