Responsibilities
- Own Linux OS and platform administration for scientific environments (EC2 servers/workstations), ensuring reliable, secure, compliant operations.
- Manage system lifecycle (package install/maintenance/patching, service restarts, environment stabilization) with minimal user disruption.
- Lead OS-level vulnerability remediation; coordinate maintenance windows and validate service restoration.
- Administer Linux storage and shared access (logical volumes, NFS/FUSE/SMB mounts, automount configs).
- Manage Unix identity/access controls (group membership, directory service integration) for timely IPS access.
- Support Linux migration/modernization initiatives with platform and application teams.
- Provide operational support for Scientific AWS environments (secure, resilient provisioning; day-to-day support).
- Provision/support Linux EC2 infrastructure.
- Own AWS IAM operations (user/role lifecycle, access key rotation, permissions policies).
- Manage Amazon S3 storage/access patterns (data sharing, archival restores, secure transfer workflows).
- Support core AWS services (EC2, S3, load balancing, Lambda, Storage Gateway) troubleshooting/maintenance.
- Monitor/optimize cloud costs.

Qualifications & Required/Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s (or relevant certifications).
- 5+ years AWS and Linux administration.
- Strong Linux production troubleshooting; shell scripting/automation.
- Experience with OS security patching/vulnerability remediation/maintenance coordination.
- Proficiency with Linux storage, shared filesystems/access controls (NFS/SMB/FUSE, automounts, Unix identity).
- SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, IAM, S3, Lambda) and AWS IAM (least privilege).
- S3 secure data sharing experience; AWS CLI/credential management.
- Linux/shell environments; AWS Console; ServiceNow (or equivalent ITSM).
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub; Python/TypeScript (or similar) and AWS automation; interest in AI-assisted/agentic coding tools.
