Systems Engineer, AWS and Linux

Key Responsibilities
- Own Linux OS and platform administration for scientific environments (EC2 servers/workstations), ensuring reliable, secure, compliant operations.
- Manage system lifecycle (package installation, maintenance, patching, service restarts, environment stabilization) with minimal user disruption.
- Lead OS-level vulnerability remediation; coordinate maintenance windows and validate service restoration.
- Administer Linux storage and shared access (logical volumes, NFS/FUSE/SMB mounts, automount configs).
- Manage Unix identity and access controls (group membership, directory service integration).
- Support Linux migration/modernization initiatives with platform/application teams.
- Provide AWS operational support for scientific environments; provision/support Linux EC2 infrastructure.
- Own AWS IAM operations (user/role lifecycle, access key rotation, permissions policy administration).
- Manage Amazon S3 storage/access patterns (data sharing, archival restores, secure transfers).
- Support core AWS services (EC2, S3, load balancing, Lambda, Storage Gateway).
- Monitor/optimize cloud costs.

Qualifications & Experience
- BS in related field or relevant certifications.
- 5+ years’ experience in AWS and Linux administration.
- Strong Linux production troubleshooting; shell scripting/automation.
- OS security patching/vulnerability remediation; Linux storage/access control; SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle.
- Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, IAM, S3, Lambda); practical AWS IAM; S3 secure sharing.
- AWS CLI and cloud troubleshooting.
- ServiceNow/ITSM, Git/GitHub workflows.
- Programming/automation experience (e.g., Python, TypeScript), AWS automation; interest in AI-assisted tools.
