Role Summary

The Supervisor provides leadership and direct management to the process operators in the Medicine Foundry operations group. The Supervisor is the on-shift management representative. The Manufacturing Supervisor actively supports and oversees start-up activities to bring manufacturing equipment into service, educates the team on proper operation of the facility, and travels domestically and internationally to collaborate and learn from API-producing sites. Upon completion of the project phase, the Supervisor oversees the production of API molecules, sustaining a safety-first, quality-always culture across diverse unit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce adherence to safety, quality, and environmental compliance requirements and appropriately escalate adverse events.
  • Oversee operation of processes and equipment according to batch records, user manuals, design parameters, SOPs, and work instructions to meet production schedules.
  • Monitor, test, clean, and operate area equipment and systems; ensure all systems are in good operating condition and maintained per requirements.
  • Lead site safety culture, promote compliant operations and accountability at all levels.
  • Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting and reaction to process upsets, integrating operator input and escalating as appropriate.
  • Follow procedures for safety event reporting and documentation, including spill response, issue escalation, and Emergency Response procedures as needed.
  • Follow procedures for quality event reporting and GMP deviation documentation; interface with Quality Assurance and escalate issues as needed.
  • Oversee shift-to-shift communication regarding area operations and address issues raised at passover.
  • Participate in daily shift huddles/meetings to align on daily operational goals.
  • Lead assignments for building/area operations such as safety audits, procedure coordination, housekeeping, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure all personnel follow cGMP, safe work, hygiene, and housekeeping standards specific to the work area and job classification; enforce PPE usage as required.
  • Deploy operators effectively to meet production schedules; maintain coverage for Emergency Response Teams; manage holiday and overtime; oversee timecard coding for process operators.
  • Manage individual performance on shift, conduct employee relations activities, and complete annual performance management processes.
  • Ensure all shift members are trained and that operating procedures and training materials are current.
  • Partner with the area Associate Director to understand Foundry strategy and future production needs; communicate and support this strategy with shift teams.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, analytical laboratory, and Technical Support to coordinate shift and functional support.

Qualifications

  • Required: 5+ years experience directly supporting/supervising a manufacturing operation, preferably in a GMP and/or chemical processing environment.
  • Required: Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Lilly will not sponsor work authorization or visas for this role.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills (desktop software).
  • Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to work with a team, make independent decisions, and influence diverse groups.
  • Ability to instill teamwork within the shift and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to coach and provide feedback to direct reports.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests.
  • Strong technical proficiency and ability to train and mentor others.

Education

  • HS Diploma or GED (required).
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in science, engineering, or a technical field.

Additional Requirements

  • Position Location: US: Lebanon IN Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF), with initial location in Indianapolis, IN during pre-startup phase.
  • Travel Percentage: 10%.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift.
  • May be required to provide support outside of normal working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to other Lilly locations for training purposes.
