Supervisor of Molecular Operations oversees daily operations of the Molecular - Solid Tumor laboratory and ensures the molecular department meets quality guidelines for clinical testing.
Job Responsibilities
- Manages/performs all clinical molecular testing.
- Maintains routine molecular equipment maintenance and support logs.
- Trains molecular technologists on new techniques.
- Monitors test analysis and specimen examination to ensure analytic performance.
- Follows lab procedures for specimen handling/processing, test analyses, reporting, and records of patient test results.
- Supports compliance with applicable regulatory/standard requirements (FDA, CLIA, NYS, CAP, ISO, etc.).
- Performs and documents proficiency testing (PT) samples.
- Adheres to quality control policies; documents QC activities, instrument/procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follows established procedures when test systems are below acceptable performance.
- Documents corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
- Tracks, accumulates, and computes performance metrics.
- Prioritizes/triages specimens; handles/disposes of specimens and chemical waste per procedural manual and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures adequate inventories of reagents and supplies.
- Resolves employee relations issues and recommends disciplinary action.
- First point of contact for technical/procedural/policy questions; communicates new processes/updates.
- Multi-tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ensures processes support delivery of quality results and continually reassesses for continuous improvement.
- Provides effective verbal and written communication; shares/receives information across the organization.
- Supports team/organizational goals; listens to and addresses client/customer needs; exceeds service/quality expectations.
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical/biological/clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology (accredited institution).
- 4+ years lab experience, including 2 years high-complexity patient testing, with 1 year in Molecular Pathology methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in chemical/biological/clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology.
- Previous leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Experience with PCR, microarray, fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing, and Next Generation Sequencing.
- CLSp (MB) or MB(ASCP) certification.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit/stand and/or work at a computer for long periods.
- May handle/expose to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes, and bio-hazardous chemicals/materials including formalin.
- Visual acuity and analytical skill; ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Training
- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
Other
- 3rd Shift: 9:30pm–8:00am.
- May require weekends and/or holidays.
