Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Leads Category Management for specific complex category areas, including development of sourcing strategies, management of strategic supplier relationships and performance management, plus tactical RFx activities.
- Uses applicable e-Sourcing tools to support sourcing activities and analysis.
- Drives development and implementation of sourcing strategies and cost reduction initiatives.
- Performs market research to support category strategies and/or sourcing activities; filters data into relevant, actionable formats.
- Manages Supplier Performance/Relationship Management, including Executive Business Reviews (internal and third-party); responsible for meeting preparation, pre-read documents, capturing action items, follow-up, and ensuring Supplier Performance Dashboards are completed in advance.
- Supports Business Owners with identification of sourcing risks; coordinates with Risk Subject Matter Experts to assess and develop mitigation plans.
- Manages the full RFx process: requirements development, drafting RFP documents, facilitating team/vendor sessions, negotiating terms and pricing, and supporting execution of Supplier Agreements.
- Develops annual cost savings targets with Business Partners and Finance.
- Manages complex negotiations on price and terms, often with Business Partners and Legal.
- Creates comprehensive negotiation planners to align internal parties upfront.
- Mentors junior sourcing colleagues, temporary workers, and/or college co-ops as directed.
Knowledge And Skills
- Deep understanding of Category Management/Strategic Sourcing (RFx execution, negotiation, contract execution, supplier performance management, business stakeholder management).
- Acts as a trusted resource to bring ideas that create tangible business value.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong knowledge of ERP systems and related e-Sourcing tools; experience with business intelligence/reporting platforms.
- Expertise in complex supplier negotiations and supplier management.
- Strong analytical capabilities; PowerPoint skills; experience with Power BI, Tableau (or similar) for reporting/data generation.
- Demonstrated use of Continuous Improvement tools (e.g., Pareto Charts, Flow Diagrams) to drive process improvements.
- Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to create detailed plans and manage dependencies/critical paths.
- Collaborative leadership across business partners and functions including Legal, Compliance, and Finance.
- Strong written/verbal communication; ability to present and lead meetings with senior management.
- Deep knowledge of contract law and agreement risk awareness (e.g., NDAs, Master Services Agreements).
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deliver on time, and work autonomously with minimal direction.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (4-year college/university).
- Typically 6+ years of specific sourcing experience; ideally in pharmaceutical/biotech, or equivalent education/experience.
