Staff IT Engineer – Cambridge Hybrid working, 2–3 days per week in the office As Staff IT Engineer here at Illumina in the UK, you will be a key member of the Enterprise Infrastructure team, responsible for the reliable operation, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure, end user computing, and data centre services that underpin business-critical systems and employee productivity. This is a hands-on, operationally focused role supporting on premises and cloud-based compute, storage, virtualization, identity, and endpoint platforms across the enterprise. You will act as a technical authority and escalation point, working closely with Service Desk, EUC, security, and application teams in a global environment. You bring deep expertise across enterprise infrastructure, Windows Server environments, identity platforms, and end user computing, with the confidence to act as an escalation point for complex issues. You are a strong troubleshooter who can balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment while remaining calm and methodical. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, supports your strong technical foundation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Operate, support, and optimize enterprise data centre and cloud infrastructure including compute, storage, virtualization platforms, and Windows Server environments. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and performance tune infrastructure components to ensure high availability, resilience, and scalability. Support lifecycle management activities including hardware refreshes, operating system upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and decommissioning. Maintain infrastructure reliability, security, and compliance through adherence to operational best practices, standards, and audit requirements. Provide operational support for identity and access management services including Active Directory, Azure AD, Okta SSO, and related authentication platforms. Support enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including Rubrik Data Protection, ensuring data integrity and recoverability. Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management for infrastructure, identity, and EUC services. Administer and support end user computing platforms including device management, endpoint security, identity access, and collaboration tools. Manage and continuously improve endpoint lifecycle processes for Windows and or macOS devices, including provisioning, imaging, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning. Implement, operate, and enhance endpoint management solutions such as Intune, SCCM, Jamf, or equivalent platforms. Develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks. Contribute to automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service reliability and employee digital experience. Collaborate closely with Service Desk, EUC, security, application, and business teams as a trusted technical partner. Participate in a 24x7 Tier 2 on-call rotation supporting critical infrastructure and end user computing services.
