Staff Bioinformatics Scientist

Role: Develop and optimize signal processing and bioinformatics algorithms for genomic data analysis within Illumina's Primary Analysis team, focusing on enhancing speed, reliability, and accuracy of base calling from imaging signals. Responsibilities: design, prototype, and implement multi-threaded C/C++ software on Linux; analyze data to optimize algorithms and software; collaborate externally to ensure streamlined workflows; provide technical leadership and represent the team at project and executive levels. Requirements: Master's or PhD in bioinformatics, engineering, computer science, or related fields; at least 6 years of relevant experience; proficiency in C++ (or Java/C#) and understanding of object-oriented design; experience with signal processing, statistical data analysis, and software debugging; strong problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred: experience with information theory, time-series analysis, Python, real-time systems, software acceleration, and Agile development; familiarity with Git.
