Responsibilities
- Support and execute the Indianapolis emergency preparedness and response plan at various Indianapolis facilities.
- Lead/coordinate on-site contracted responders and volunteer emergency responders to manage site emergencies.
- Coordinate with security, fire safety systems, local building staff/management, and outside agencies (e.g., IFD, IMPD, county board of health).
- Perform required maintenance, inspection, and training when not responding.
- Provide investigation and fire suppression; coordinate fire response with outside agencies.
- Provide emergency medical care to sick/injured plant site personnel.
- Mitigate hazmat emergencies; provide confined space entry rescue and standby services.
- Maintain equipment/facilities in response readiness; maintain departmental records/files.
- Lead in emergencies as NIMS Incident Commander; perform/oversee life safety system inspections/testing.
- Provide stewardship/oversight of contract emergency response resources.
Conditional / Requirements
- Physically demanding; contingent on: Physical Exam (NFPA 1582 or EHS approved), Scott SCBA quantitative fit test, and Work Performance Evaluation.
- Must not be claustrophobic or acrophobic; clean driving record; read maps and graphical data.
Basic Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Indiana State Firefighter I/II; Indiana EMT (EMT-B or higher); Indiana Hazardous Materials Technician.
- Level A suit PPE qualified.
- Confined Space Rescue Technician certification held or obtained within 6 months.
Additional Skills/Preferences
- NIMS incident command training; EVOC; outside EMS/fire experience; critical incident stress management; CPR instructor and Fire Instructor 2/3.
- Familiarity with Lilly Indianapolis sites/business units; work with external fire/loss prevention agencies; construction/maintenance fire safety field experience; safety culture improvement; BS/AS (HSE/Engineering) or equivalent; advanced fire safety training; interpret blueprints; interpersonal/relationship management; verbal/written communication; time management.
Education
- Bachelorβs degree (or equivalent work experience).
Schedule
- Orientation: MβF, 8aβ4p for first two weeks.
- After orientation: shift work; 24 hours on/48 hours off; supports 24/7/365.
