The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Sr. Specialist supports and maintains an efficient health, safety, and environmental management system for the De Soto, KS manufacturing and research site. Ensures compliance with EHS regulations and promotes best practices across operations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical environment and safety support to site management and employees.
- Plan, develop, and support implementation of EHS best practices to ensure compliance with local, state, federal EHS regulations and company policies/permits.
- Work with local governmental EHS agencies as needed.
- Develop and deliver EHS training for shop floor employees and site leadership.
- Lead initiatives for incident reduction.
- Communicate complex technical and regulatory information to senior leaders and shop floor.
- Manage EHS programs with site system owners (e.g., Powered Industrial Truck, Contractor Management, High Risk Work, Incident Investigation, Emergency Response).
- Support incident investigations (accidents/near misses) and ensure effective corrective/preventive actions.
- Oversee change management to maintain continuous compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement.
- Assure completion of required reports to site/divisional/corporate/regulatory agencies.
- Lead risk assessments with shop floor employees (e.g., Job Safety Analysis).
Education:
- Bachelorโs degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, Physical Science, or related technical discipline.
Experience (Required):
- 5+ years progressive EHS experience.
- Knowledge of computers; ability to work independently.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Federal/State OSHA, EPA, and EHS laws/regulations.
- Experience with US EHS regulatory agencies/corporate support functions.
- Demonstrated compliance experience with one or more programs: Powered Industrial Trucks, Contractor Management, Emergency Response, High-Risk Work.
Preferred:
- CSP/PE/CIH; Masterโs degree.
- Lean/Six Sigma/process improvement experience.
- Experience in FDA or USDA-regulated manufacturing.
