Role Summary

Sr. Scientist, Immunology/Neuroimmunology at Neurocrine Biosciences within the Neuroimmunology Research Team focused on developing novel drugs and therapeutic approaches to target inflammation and disease progression in autoimmune and neuroimmune spaces. The role requires independent target identification, assay design and validation, and leadership of cross-functional teams to drive drug development across in vitro and in vivo systems.

Responsibilities

  • Independent proposal, identification, and validation of novel targets in the immunology space, strategically impacting target discovery and portfolio progression
  • Design and execute experiments for validation of new targets, and functional assessment of novel therapeutics using cutting-edge knowledge, technology, and assays
  • Lead project groups and work with cross-functional teams to drive project progression and therapeutic development
  • Conduct and manage in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo experimental work to support new target discovery projects and assessment of novel therapeutics (large and small molecules)
  • Convey novel target ideas, project visions, and progress to wider functional teams and senior management
  • Collaborate in a matrixed environment to bring project teams together and progress therapeutics efficiently
  • Generate and analyze cellular gene signatures to identify and validate targets/pathways in human and animal tissues
  • Work with external collaborators and manage external opportunities
  • Establish and lead external relationships with CROs to drive data delivery and external innovation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Immunology, Neuroimmunology and/or related science discipline with relevant experience; postdoc experience may be required
  • MS/MA degree in Biological Sciences related to Immunology/Neuroimmunology or Pharmacology with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • BS/BA degree in Biology/Life Sciences or related discipline with 4+ years of industry experience in biotech/pharma and drug discovery exposure
  • Alternative combinations of degrees and industry experience as specified in the job description
  • Demonstrated expertise and scientific achievement in immunology and/or neuroimmunology
  • Experience in isolation and culture of human and mouse primary cells (PBMC, T cells, B cells, myeloid cells, etc.)
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and reporter cell lines
  • Experience in functional immune-based assays (cell proliferation, cytokine release, ADCC, MLR, co-culture, signaling analysis)
  • Experience with core immunology techniques (high-parameter flow cytometry, MSD/ELISA, qPCR/Nanostring/RNA-seq, extraction techniques, cell purification, multiplex bead arrays)
  • Experience in in vivo studies and autoimmune rodent models; CRO management is a plus
  • Experience with large molecule modalities; small molecule experience a plus
  • Proven ability to manage internal/external lab personnel
  • Strong data assimilation and ability to apply external findings to new projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in cross-functional/matrix environment and influence others
  • Strong project management and multitasking abilities; ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

  • Not specified beyond qualifications above; advanced degrees preferred in immunology/neuroimmunology-related fields
