Role: Lead research and development of targeted lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations, focusing on beyond-liver delivery for small- and large-molecule therapeutics. Responsibilities: drive hypothesis generation, optimize LNP self-assembly, refine composition and surface modifications for tissue specificity, and incorporate high-throughput, automation, and AI/ML techniques to accelerate discovery. Conduct experimental design, data analysis, and communicate results to multidisciplinary teams; implement advanced physicochemical characterization methods and ensure rigorous documentation. Provide scientific leadership and mentorship within a fast-paced, site-based environment. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field; 2+ years of expertise in LNP design, formulation, physicochemical characterization, with experience in targeted or extra-hepatic delivery preferred. Skills: proficiency in high-throughput workflows, automation, AI/ML-enabled data analysis, and analytical techniques such as DLS, CryoEM, SAXS, ITC, NMR. High-value specifics: focus on targeted, extra-hepatic LNP delivery platforms, with strong emphasis on biophysical characterization and data-driven innovation. Collaboration: partner with cross-functional research teams and external collaborators. Work setup: onsite full-time at Moderna's location, no remote work option, with no travel specified.
