Position Overview
This role ensures the reliability and performance of analytical laboratory equipment by overseeing maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting across instruments, and supports equipment lifecycle management (installations, qualifications, vendor interactions) for compliance and readiness.
Responsibilities
- Manage routine/corrective maintenance, scheduled calibrations, and preventative maintenance on analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, spectrophotometers, balances, incubators).
- Monitor equipment performance; diagnose issues; execute first-line repairs; act as on-site point of contact for vendor field service engineers and global support.
- Support installation and qualification of new equipment via IQ/OQ/PQ; provide technical input to change controls; ensure requalification before return to routine use.
- Execute QC activities in compliance with SOPs/methods, GDP, data integrity (ALCOA+), cGMPs, EHS, chemical hygiene, and biosafety; maintain inspection readiness and support audits/inspections.
- Identify/escalate atypical results and potential deviations; support root cause investigations and CAPA; contribute to continuous improvement; maintain training competencies.
- Lead QC analytical equipment onboarding for the new Richmond site (define instrument needs, select via AIQ marketplace, coordinate procurement/installation, ensure IQ/OQ/PQ qualification prior to startup/testing).
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related discipline.
- 7+ years supporting analytical equipment in a GMP-regulated QC environment.
- Authorization to work in the US full-time (no visa sponsorship).
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Preventive maintenance/calibration/corrective maintenance across QC analytical instruments in GMP labs.
- Troubleshooting and first-line repairs; escalation to vendor engineers.
- Hands-on IQ/OQ/PQ qualification; coordination with validation teams; requalification post-repair.
- Equipment lifecycle management (change control, logbooks, calibration scheduling, CMMS/asset management).
- Liaison with vendor service engineers; ensure safe, documented, GMP-compliant work.
- GDP and ALCOA+ knowledge; strong cross-functional communication.
Additional Information
- Location: Richmond, VA. Short-term onboarding travel possible; ~10% or less after onboarding.
- May include on-call and after-hours/company shutdown coverage.
