General Summary:
- Serve as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals (HCPs) who treat Sickle Cell Disease and TDT.
- Disseminate clinical and scientific information regarding Vertex compounds in a timely, ethical, stakeholder-focused manner.
- Shape the medical plan by providing external stakeholder insights and support the Medical Affairs strategy and plan.
- Engage HCPs based on scientific educational and research needs using available Vertex resources; provide emerging data in response to inquiries.

Key Duties And Responsibilities:
- Develop trusted relationships with Thought Leaders and relevant HCPs; leverage understanding of inter-relationships within/between academic centers.
- Apply all aspects of the SEM (Scientific Engagement Model) in interactions.
- Incorporate the medical plan into interactions and territory planning; capture feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders.
- Use CRM/data analytics tools for time-sensitive documentation, TL engagement improvements, and workload management.
- Communicate scientific information effectively and compliantly about disease state and product.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of regional payers and their impact on patient care delivery.
- Support clinical development/operations by using IB content; present at SIV meetings; provide trial site nominations; review end-of-study data with investigators.
- Represent Vertex at medical congresses (sessions/abstract coverage, booth staffing, TL interactions, congress summaries, and β€œMSL congress lead” debrief/logistics as needed).
- Mentor/train less-experienced colleagues; assist with new hire MSL onboarding.
- Perform administrative tasks and comply with Vertex policies/procedures (e.g., CRM entry, reporting, expense/calendar entries, training assignments).

Knowledge, Skills, And Qualifications:
- Ability to meet goals/timeframes; deliver high-quality results.
- Plan/complete projects in a changing field environment; create solutions to issues.
- Appraise and comprehend medical/scientific literature.
- Present clinical/scientific information credibly in varied settings.
- Knowledge of geographic territory.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare regulatory environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to work in a matrix environment.
- Apply knowledge of disease/disease management, healthcare environment, and competitors.
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks; conduct compliant interactions.
- In-depth payers knowledge to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines.
- Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research.
- Fluent in English and local language (oral and written).
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel overnight up to 70% (including occasional weekend travel).

Education And Experience:
- Advanced biomedical/life sciences degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, Masters, NP, PA).
- Typically 5+ years of MSL experience or other medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech (or equivalent education/experience).
- Helpful: training/experience in Cell & Gene Therapy, Sickle Cell Disease, and/or Beta Thalassemia.
