Role Summary

The Senior Category Manager develops and implements category plans and strategies for analytical testing services to ensure reliable, robust, agile, compliant and cost-effective supply. The role engages with Product Development, External Manufacturing, Site Operations, Supply, and Strategic Sourcing to enable speed, supply assurance, and long-term viability in the clinical and commercial network. Able to engage technically, operationally, and commercially to support speed, high quality performance, supply assurance, and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, support, and occasionally lead the application and integration of Sourcing Category Management to meet the needs of Analytical Services, Quality and Manufacturing Tech. organizations to support the testing and progression of programs; may cover Cell Therapy, Biologics and Small Molecule testing assignments.
  • Establish strategic category plans tailored to assigned categories/sub-categories in alignment with objectives and sourcing strategies.
  • Lead sourcing, negotiating, contracting, and purchasing to leverage buying power and recommend procurement strategies and tactics.
  • Interact extensively with Business Partners, EXM Site Operations, Product Development, Cell Therapy Development, and the Supplier Performance Management team to identify total costs and realize value in contracts.
  • Manage supplier and category segmentation, metrics/KPI development and application, and collaborate with Category Leads to develop a preferred supplier strategy program.
  • Participate in Supplier Relationship Management to develop and manage internal and external supplier relationships.
  • Apply procurement methods: perform cost-benefit analyses, develop should-cost models, review specifications and acceptance criteria, source materials/services, and solicit bids and proposals.
  • Review and revise procurement practices to ensure conformance with laws.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education of a B.S./B.A.; scientific or engineering focus preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience, with four years in procurement or relevant business/operations roles.
  • Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial and market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity and management, technology utilization, strategic planning, and integrated supply chain experience.
  • Category management, process redesign and continuous improvement, project management and performance measurement skills.
  • Understanding of R&D in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Proactive, creative, and analytical approach; ability to partner with internal stakeholders across a matrixed organization.
