Role Summary

The Senior Manager or Associate Director of Quantitative Science will apply statistics and data science to support multiple functional areas across research and development and beyond. The role focuses on design, analysis, interpretation, and communication of data, collaborating with counterparts to promote quantitative thinking in drug discovery, nonclinical and clinical development, biomarker development, real-world data, genomics, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical experimental design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting, including
    • Estimate sample size and aid in study design including simulations
    • Conceptualize solutions to unique challenges and develop analysis methods and programs
    • Explore and develop the use of AI and machine learning
    • Write statistical analysis reports and give presentations
  • Develop statistical applications to enable researchers to analyze repetitive experiments
  • Conduct outreach to internal functions, establishing collaborations and providing education to apply statistics and data science to the business
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior staff on the team

Qualifications

  • Required: M.S. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or similar field
  • Preferred: Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or similar field
  • Minimum experience: 5 years (PhD) or 7 years (Master’s) for associate director; 2 years (PhD) or 4 years (Master’s) for senior manager
  • Broad knowledge of statistical methods and ability to solve problems creatively
  • Scientific curiosity and ability to learn
  • Exceptional consultative, written and verbal communication, presenting, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, matrixed environment
  • Hands-on knowledge of statistical methods across R&D such as time-to-event analyses, ANCOVA, mixed models for repeated measures, categorical data approaches, Bayesian methods, simulation, AI/ML, graphical methods
  • Hands-on knowledge of study design and sample size calculation
  • Strong programming skills in at least two of SAS, R, or Python
  • Proficiency in developing specifications and designing analysis modules to automate analysis, visualization, and reporting; ability to document and support systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and mentor both internal and contract staff
  • Effective review and evaluation skills for documents drafted by staff

Education

  • M.S. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or similar field required
  • Ph.D. preferred
