Sr. Lab Operations Associate, Sample Management

Overview

The Sr. Laboratory Operations Associate in Sample Management will provide support to the Research and Early Development labs, in the receiving and storage of nonclinical samples. This is an onsite position in our Cambridge location. This Sr Laboratory Operations Associate must collaborate on a team and coordinate tasks with various stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met. This role will also be responsible for processing new samples into the archive inventory located in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Additionally, this role will coordinate the shipment of orders with the logistics department.

This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end sample tracking and logistics for nonclinical and clinical samples, working closely with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain and support the overall inventory of nonclinical and clinical samples and reference materials within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Perform any combination of sample management and/or archive tasks, including labeling, receipt, transferring, tracking, inventory, archival, shipping logistics and disposal of nonclinical and clinical samples and test and reference materials utilizing a LIMS system.
  • Maintain SOPs, working policies and forms for receipt, storage, and disposition of nonclinical and clinical samples and test and reference materials.
  • Handle tasks quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Support all laboratory services such as sample management, shipping logistics, auditing freezer defrosts, material transfers and sample data integrity.
  • Perform daily inventory checks to ensure laboratory supplies are ordered, stocked, and available as needed.
  • Be a resource for sample management project development and data gathering.
  • Effectively communicate with end users, providing daily updates on the availability of laboratory samples and shipments.
  • Coordinate international shipments with end users and the Global Trade team.
  • Maintain information needed for international shipments including completing Tariff Request forms, customs invoices, and value determination.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by identifying, reporting, and eliminating potential workplace hazards.
  • Interface with vendors regarding consumable delivery timelines, back orders, and purchasing requests.
  • Collaborate with end users and the Shipping team to ensure all materials are received and distributed accordingly.
  • Dispose of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps, and other potentially hazardous materials according to regulations.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other members of lab support teams. Take on other duties as assigned to support these teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline with 5+ years of experience in a research laboratory environment.
  • Previous experience in Sample Management at a CRO or Pharmaceutical company is highly desired.
  • Experience with LIMS systems, international shipping regulations and data integrity.
  • Experience with Department of Transportation and hazardous material shipping regulations preferred - DOT/AITA Certified.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, and Smartsheet.
  • Experience with asset management systems and other web-based software platforms is a plus.
  • Position requires excellent time management and organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required.
