Automation Engineers (Concord, NC)

Responsibilities / Scope
- Provide automation design and oversight for delivery of Lilly’s new Concord facility.
- Manage system integrators to deliver all aspects of Automation for the Concord facility.
- Support key corporate initiatives including life cycle management, Engineering information management, and cyber security.
- Evaluate new technology and innovation trends to develop proof of concepts and share use cases for application within Lilly.
- Drive automation governance and replication across the Global Parenteral Network and Global Packaging Network for Tier 1 equipment, architecture, and Automation/IT systems and solutions.
- Optimize and improve project automation engineering approaches using technical expertise, best practices, engineering standards, and project delivery expertise.

Key Objectives / Deliverables
- Safety: Improve personnel/equipment safety; ensure safe design and operation of new equipment; ensure automation design reflects safety needs for operations and maintenance.
- Automation/Control Discipline and Technical Leadership: Lead through solution assessment, replication, and development; manage tools, engineering standards, master specifications, and best practices; provide technical coaching/consultation; facilitate shared learning forums.
- Automation Design: Support profiling and design efforts (including European sites and Global Facilities Delivery); ensure designs meet requirements, consider life cycle cost, and eliminate non-value-add complexity.
- External Influence and Benchmarking: Monitor/influence external codes and standards; ensure ongoing compliance; extract benchmarking from academia and industry.
- Technology and Innovation: Stay current on external trends/practices to evaluate technology for Lilly applications.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in automation machine control, process control, or equivalent.
- Authorized to work in the United States full-time; Lilly will not sponsor work authorization/visas.

Additional Skills/Preferences
- Demonstrated ability to work safely.
- Expertise in one or more automation platforms (preferably Rockwell Automation Systems).
- Strong problem-solving in measurements, control (process and/or manufacturing), control systems, integration, and data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage people and projects to deliver common objectives.
- Knowledge of GMPs and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems.
- Knowledge of databases.

Additional Information (Role/Work Conditions)
- Based out of Concord, North Carolina.
- Monday–Friday (8-hour days); overtime and some weekend/holiday may be required for production support.
- Travel up to 25% during site start-up (domestic and international).
