Position Summary
Lead synthetic molecule route commercialization and process optimization/unit operation definition to support clinical trials, product commercialization, and regulatory submissions. Lead cross-disciplinary teams and provide oversight for external R&D, tech transfer, and campaign execution.
Responsibilities
- Apply modern synthetic organic and process chemistry to address CMC challenges.
- Lead/supervise design and development of API synthetic routes using modern technologies.
- Optimize unit operations: process modeling, equipment selection, and scale-up methodologies.
- Lead cross-disciplinary evaluation/refinement of manufacturing routes/technologies/practices.
- Provide technical leadership for scale-up and demonstration on development and commercial equipment; collaborate on technology transfer to CRO/CMO and Lilly sites.
- Design experimental lab plans for route/process design, optimization, and tech transfer.
- Integrate process/property data using understanding of underlying physical processes.
- Use PAT and modeling platforms; leverage high-throughput experimentation to accelerate discovery.
- Plan and lead short/long-term development activities; manage agendas/timelines and resource allocation.
- Collaborate across CMC networks to deliver materials/information for clinical and regulatory submissions.
- Address global regulatory CMC questions enabling clinical studies and marketing authorization.
- Supervise/mentor a diverse scientific staff; build collaboration and external innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in organic chemistry (or related) with 10+ years pharmaceutical process development OR MS (organic chemistry/related) with 15+ years.
Additional/Preferred Skills
- Pharmaceutical and active ingredient/formulated product experience; proof-of-concept to commercialization.
- Technical process transfer to manufacturing; regulatory submissions/Q&A.
- Strong publications/external reputation; project leadership; PAT; modeling/simulation and analytics; leadership and communication.
Benefits/Compensation (as stated)
- Anticipated wage: $148,500–$257,400; eligible for company bonus and comprehensive benefits (e.g., 401(k), medical/dental/vision, vacation, life insurance, time off/leave, well-being).
