Role Summary
The Sr. Director, Head of Operational Excellence (OpEx) in Global Clinical Operations (GCO) leads the operational engine across Tevaβs Innovative and Generics portfolios. This role designs and sustains the execution framework, operating models, standards, performance systems, and accountability mechanisms to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery of clinical trials worldwide. It drives cycle time reduction, operational rigor, and continuous improvement by turning data and performance signals into actionable steps, partnering with senior R&D and functional leaders to embed disciplined planning and execution. The role may be based in Parsippany, NJ or West Chester, PA, with a hybrid schedule (three days in office, two days remote).
Responsibilities
- Establish the OpEx vision, operating model, organizational structure and multi-year road map
- Build and mentor a high performing operational excellence team capable of driving enterprise transformation
- Partner with EPIX functional leads to embed operational discipline across the clinical lifecycle and GCO
- Assess current operating models, map end-to-end processes to gain efficiency and speed
- Design harmonized, scalable processes and frameworks for planning, forecasting, feasibility, budgeting, execution, enrollment management and closeout
- Develop governance structures that drive consistency and eliminate operational variability across functions and geographies
- Lead way-of-working harmonization across Innovative and Generics portfolios
- Define and maintain metrics aligned to quality timelines, predictability, vendor performance, patient/site experience, and cost
- Design dashboards and performance reviews that inform decisions at study, functional, and portfolio levels
- Collaborate with other functional areas to establish governance and steering committees
- Ensure metrics are actionable, driving accountability escalation and performance improvement
- Champion continuous improvement across planning, execution, governance, and vendor management
- Drive adoption of new processes, systems, tools, and behaviors through structured change management and training
- Shape operational decision-making frameworks that support portfolio-level prioritization and resource allocation
- Drive process simplification and implement technology enhancements to optimize speed, accuracy, and efficiency
- Define readiness criteria for key study milestones and ensure teams are equipped to meet them
- Build operating structures that support portfolio expansion, new modalities, and increasing trial complexity
- Align OpEx strategies with technology, digital and AI/ML teams to maximize adoption and impact
- Oversee resource allocation and governance for GCO
Qualifications
- Required: 12+ years in Clinical Operations, Operational Excellence, R&D Strategy, or related transformation roles
- Required: Proven success designing and implementing enterprise-level operating models, governance frameworks, and performance systems
- Required: Demonstrated ability to drive measurable cycle-time, quality, and efficiency improvements
- Required: Strong analytical capability with fluency in KPIs, metrics-driven decision-making, and operational dashboards
- Required: Track record of influencing senior leaders and driving adoption in a complex, global matrix environment
- Required: Experience leading high performing teams and large-scale operational change
- Required: Travel: Willingness and ability to routinely travel domestically and abroad
- Preferred: Experience in both large/established pharma and smaller/mid-sized pharma environments with transformational or high growth
- Preferred: Familiarity with predictive analytics, digital enablement AI/ML applications and scenario modeling
- Preferred: Lean Six Sigma or advanced continuous improvement certification
- Education: Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree in a scientific, engineering, or supply chain discipline preferred
