Role Summary

Senior Director, Biostatistics at Gilead leads internal and external teams across multifunctional projects, directing data gathering, organization, and analysis from diverse sources. Sets departmental strategy, communicates scientific insights, and fosters collaborations with external academic or government organizations to extend visibility and address business needs. May specialize within a therapeutic area or technical domain to serve as a company-wide resource and drive clinical development and regulatory objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct internal and external teams across multifunctional project or functional areas, leading initiatives to gather, organize, and analyze data from different sources.
  • Pull together and lead highly effective cross-functional teams and create a clear sense of direction.
  • Be viewed as a key resource by more senior individuals on departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Determine the functions most critical to company success and support priorities within the functional area.
  • May specialize within a particular Therapeutic Area/indication or technical area to serve as a Company-wide resource.
  • Use all available vehicles for effective scientific communication within and outside the company.
  • Set up and influence collaborations with external academic or government organizations to extend visibility or business need of the company.
  • Have a good understanding of the business beyond Biostatistics and be a recognized authority outside the company.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in group settings.
  • Use competitive intelligence to influence clinical development strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding statistical principles to ensure the company meets regulatory, scientific, and business objectives.
  • Lead a specific component of a departmental strategic initiative.
  • Demonstrate generalizability of solutions to other similar settings.
  • Anticipate problems before they occur when appropriate to the level.
  • Positively impact processes and projects by influencing peers, cross-functional colleagues, and direct managers.

Qualifications

  • Required: 12+ years of industry experience in the statistical analysis of biomedical data with a PhD degree in Biostatistics or equivalent.
  • Required: Programming capability with statistical software packages in SAS or R.
  • Required: Understanding SDTM/ADaM standards.
  • Preferred: Experience with Rheumatic diseases.
  • Preferred: Experience in inflammation.

Education

  • PhD degree in Biostatistics or equivalent.
